Army man Joseph Wood grew up bouncing between the homes of his divorced parents. Little did he know that, one day, his own marriage would turn out worse than he could possibly imagine. In July of 2004, Joe met Shauna Keith, a 23-year-old Oregon native who managed a retail company – or so she said. Joe fell for Shauna immediately, and the two married after a year together. Joe had to spend a lot of time away while he was deployed, so he gave Shauna power-of-attorney to manage their finances. Everything was going great until Joe started receiving phone calls from the bank about his account being overdrawn, his bills going unpaid, and delinquent payments on loans – most of which he’d never known he had. Before Joe could confront Shauna about their financial woes, she announced that she was pregnant. This made Joe forget all about their problems – until he calculated the baby’s suspected date of conception and realized he wasn’t even in the same state during that time. This was only the first of the secrets Joe uncovered about Shauna, and it would only be a pit-stop on her long road of theft, lies, and polygamy.
