Kelly had a very pivotal moment in her life when she was only 6 years old. This was the day that her parents sat her and her brother down and told them that they were both adopted. Even though Kelly was so young she clearly remembers the importance of this day because it was at that moment where she realized that life wasn’t what she thought it was. No matter how loving Kelly’s adoptive parents were, she could never get the question of, “Who am I?” out of her mind. Kelly’s adoptive mother was always supportive and told her that when she was old enough she would help her search, however when Kelly was 15, her adoptive mother lost her battle with ovarian cancer. Losing her mother at such a young age fueled the fire inside Kelly to begin her search; however it has not been an easy road. Like most adoptees’ trying to search for their birth parents, Kelly has found the typical road blocks that the social services and court systems present with closed adoptions; which is that they can’t disclose any information. In Kelly’s determination, she was delighted to find the attorney who handled her adoption only to be told that there was nothing she could do and that she should just give up. For Kelly giving up isn’t an option and she remains hopeful that Troy and his team can be the ones to reunite her with her birth mother.
