Preview:
The CSIs puzzle over the death of a schoolteacher who was apparently murdered by the Japanese mafia. Meanwhile, Natalia’s refusal to address her health issues puts the team at risk. The body of social studies teacher Russell Turner is discovered sliced clean in two in an abandoned warehouse. At the scene, Tom decides that the murder weapon was a sword. “The weapon sliced through bone like butter,” he explains. Metal fragments found on the wall indicate that the sword could only have been a Japanese katana, or samurai sword.
Jesse, who became an expert on the Japanese mob during his time with the LAPD, discovers that a high-ranking member of the Sakiru crime family arrived in Miami shortly before the murder. Horatio and Jesse trace the boss, Takashi Yamada, to a bar owned by the syndicate. He shows the CSIs his hands, which are missing three fingers. “I can’t even lift a katana,” he argues. “Much less kill anybody with one.”
Natalia, Ryan and Tripp visit the victim’s home, where they are surprised to discover a teenage boy’s room. As Natalia scours for evidence, the boy creeps up on her with a samurai sword, but Ryan thwarts the attack just in time. The assailant (BooBoo Stewart, ‘Twilight’) claims to be Russell’s adopted son, Kenny, but Tripp cuffs him nonetheless. “You’ve got ten fingers and a katana,” he tells the boy. “That makes you my number one suspect.”
