Whitney competes in a local singing competition with the support and encouragement of her family, including her stepdad, Todd, and comes to realize what an important place Todd occupies in her heart. When she decides she wants to start calling Todd “Dad,” however, she’s faced with a surprising amount of resistance from other members of the family.
Meanwhile, Bailey longs to attend Laura’s alma mater – Arizona State University – but knows that it may be a financial impossibility, and Laura is reluctant to encourage her daughter to follow a dream that could break her heart. On Father’s Day, Whitney has to decide if she has the guts to ask Todd to be her dad.
