As evident from 9/11 and more recent terrorist attacks, New York City is a top target number for international terrorists. NGC embeds with New York’s finest, the New York Police Department, for an in-depth look at the terror task force responsible for defending the city that never sleeps. Major events take place throughout the year that could be a tempting target for a suicide bomber, truck bomb, backpack bomb or small arms attack. We’ll take to the skies in a state-of-the-art helicopter to see how officers patrol the U.S. Open. Plunge into the East River with the department’s scuba team using sophisticated sonar technology to search for explosive devices during a United Nations assembly. Meet members of the bomb squad that responded to the smoking SUV in the 2010 Times Square bombing attempt. And ring in New Year 2011 with the task force securing Times Square during this year’s celebration. We’ll be on location filming everything from the briefings leading up to the event, the day-of bomb sweeps and security checks, and monitoring the crowd with the counterterrorism division as the ball drops.
